Psychoeducational Assessments in Nova Scotia

At Sunrise Psychological, we provide psychoeducational assessments for children, teens, and young adults in Halifax, Bedford, and across Nova Scotia. We welcome families travelling from other parts of the province or throughout the Maritimes.

A psychoeducational assessment can help clarify how an individual learns, identify areas of strength and difficulty, and guide practical next steps. Our goal is to provide clear answers and meaningful recommendations that help students better understand themselves and access the support they need.

We offer weekend availability for those travelling to complete an assessment. Some parts of the assessment will need to be completed in-person, but we are flexible with completing interviews and feedback online to reduce travel time. If you are wondering about our assessment process please see our psychoeducational assessment page.

If you have questions about assessments or would like to discuss scheduling options we would be happy to schedule a free consultation with one of our psychologists.

Why seek a psychoeducational assessment?

  • falling behind despite effort

  • school taking too much time or energy

  • struggling academically with reading, writing, and/or math

  • needing documentation for school or university supports

  • wanting to better understand how a child learns

Psychoeducational assessments can help to identify:

  • Reading Difficulties (Dyslexia)

  • Writing Difficulties (Dysgraphia)

  • Math Difficulties (Dyscalculia)

  • Attentional Challenges (ADHD)

  • Cognitive Delays (Intellectual Disability)

  • Giftedness (Exceptional Learners)

In some cases, families are wondering whether a student’s challenges are related to ADHD, a learning disability, or both. A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment can help clarify and guide appropriate support.

We also work with students who are attending university or college and require clarification and documentation to support accommodation requests.
